The challenge here was how to provide the owners of this Arts & Crafts home with a relaxed exterior extension of the recently renovated indoor living areas. Modernist elements of timber, glass and concrete have been sympathetically harmonised, resulting in a stunning contrast to the borrowed landscape of the glowing red brick of St Michael’s Church in the background. By raising the whole area, the garden and existing pool are now linked, via an intermediary wooden deck with pizza oven, to the upper deck and gas fire extending from the internal living area. Floating concrete bridges link islands of lawn, surrounded by a sea of rain lilies, Zephyranthes candida, while other bold plantings in blocks and lines further reinforce the garden forms.
