Design Brief

When presented with a newly built home in two parts, the challenge for these landscape designers from Natural Habitats, was that garden requirements had not been considered when the architect designed the house. Undeterred by Council restrictions limiting hard paving and impermeable surfaces, they came up with an enticing, plant-filled landscape designed to be looked down on from above – as requested by the owners, who wanted a different view from every room. Described as contemporary Asian, because it consists of a large, soft, green carpet typical of Asian-style gardens, the expanse is cleverly highlighted with other plants that emerge from it, providing different textures and depths. A magnolia, jacaranda, Japanese maples and fruit trees offer seasonal interest.
