The house was rebuilt with sustainability in mind and for their garden the owners wanted improved access around the site, an outdoor courtyard adjacent to the house, plus productive gardens including orchard, vegetable garden, chickens, bees, and seats to enjoy the Manukau Harbour views. The heart of the design is strong, graceful retaining, using basalt stone to connect to the wider environment. Layers of terracing and the mix of native, ornamental and productive planting transform the way you experience this garden as you progress from the entrance, through the courtyard and up to the top of the site.
