Creation NZ Ltd has come up with an original flowing design in response to the crisp modernist architecture of this house by architect Lindy Leuschke in warm-toned, shuttered concrete. With its challenging setting on an exposed cliff sloping to the inner harbour, the garden needed to float around the house and its interface with the land with a light touch. The clients wanted the house to open up to the impact of the plane trees in a neighbouring reserve and the wide expanse of the sea. The garden was therefore created to deliver a fluid planted link between these elements and the house, favouring indigenous coastal species. The overall design achieves a Zen-like simplicity which is highly complementary to the house, offering a calm and peaceful integration with the surrounding environment.
