Design Brief

Designer Jo Hamilton and her husband Mark moved to this apartment nearly two years ago, leaving behind an established garden. The attraction was the large deck which wraps around two sides of the apartment allowing them to create four distinct zones. First, on the eastern side, the ‘Persian Garden’ with water, if only in a bowl, perfume provided by stephanotis, plumeria and citrus and a sense of enclosure - one ‘wall’ a line of potted citrus against the glass balustrade. The western side is longer and includes an outdoor dining area and an extensive potted edible garden nestled in the sheltered space under the kitchen window and against a concrete wall. Where the two sides meet is a chill-out zone with sun lounger and butterfly chairs. They inherited some large concrete planters, but everything else, including pots, troughs, trees, shrubs, potting mix and much, much more came up the lift and through the apartment in their trusty wheel barrow.
