Dominic Sudano is an accomplished garden designer and nurseryman based in Te Arai, Auckland. With roots in Tauhoa on the Kaipara Harbour, where he first developed his passion for gardening, Dominic has turned a childhood fascination with plants into a dynamic career. 

He began his journey by designing his first garden at the age of 11, and over the years, his love for cacti, succulents, and innovative garden design flourished.

After moving to Auckland as a teenager and starting his career as a maintenance gardener, Dominic sought broader horizons and relocated to London, which he describes as the gardening capital of the world. There, he worked with some of the most prestigious garden designers, gaining invaluable experience before establishing his own company.

Dominic’s design philosophy is deeply influenced by his time working with world-renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf, who taught him the importance of truly understanding plants. This knowledge, combined with a commitment to experimentation and a critical eye for detail, has allowed Dominic to push the boundaries of garden design.

Now back in New Zealand, Dominic brings his global expertise to his work, blending native and exotic plants to create unique gardens that reflect the diverse landscapes of the country. He is particularly passionate about incorporating New Zealand’s native ferns and lesser-known grasses into his designs, believing that a truly New Zealand garden transcends traditional styles to embrace the local environment.

With his wife Fabiana and their young son Victor Hugo, Dominic continues to explore and innovate in the field of landscape design, creating gardens that are not only beautiful but also sustainable and reflective of New Zealand’s unique identity.
