Design Brief
This peaceful inner city garden has a formal layout centred on an oval lawn, ornamental pool and large pergola. The strong design and hard landscaping defines the space, allowing for a range of perennials, shrubs and old fashioned roses to fill it with colour and scent within a background of native trees and low growing hedges. Narrow columnar tree forms and climbing plants have been used wherever possible to make the most of the confined space. In keeping with the 1904 villa, a traditionally shaped swimming pool designed by Gudrun Fischer was added in 2006, while the sunniest part of the garden has recently been revamped to include a potager.
