Design Brief
This family garden provides a private retreat from a very urban environment, and a green outlook from the upper levels. The house is one half of a duplex designed by Jane Aimer, Mike Dowsett, and Lindley Naismith. The architecture fits comfortably with the adjacent older townhouses, and the planting, a blend of native and exotic, echoes elements in the neighbouring gardens. All houses are built near the street edge maximising space for outdoor living at the rear. Unique qualities include private access through the house and a sliding panel in the courtyard wall, allowing the space to be opened to the neighbouring courtyard. All four neighbouring gardens are designed to interlink, enhancing the strong sense of community.
