The success of this small garden lies in a simple, clear design brought to life by craftsmen with an exacting eye for detail. The property lies on a north facing slope near Auckland’s inner harbour, dominated by four mature pohutukawa trees. The main thrust of the design brief was to create a small dipping pool in the rear yard as well as setting aside places for productive gardening, space for young children to play and garden, and improving access up and down the site. Textural materials and planting have been thoughtfully selected to reflect something of Auckland’s volcanic and coastal environment.
