Design Brief
This garden lies on the edge of Cornwall Park and was designed and built in conjunction with the renovation of the house in 2010. The client had clear ideas about the styling of the house and garden and so was involved in many of the design choices. She loved the formality of hedging and structured plants and was keen to see the park being an extension of the garden.
Craig Steiner was engaged to redevelop the landscape plans and realise the potential of the park-side setting. Barbara Garrett designed the planting to fulfil these briefs.
The garden has hedged privacy from the street and neighbours, but dramatic view shafts to the park and One Tree Hill from both the house and garden. It features a dining terrace with outdoor fireplace, an enclosed pool area and an allée of large Portuguese laurels that draw the eye to the gate into the park. An informal grouping of large trees set in lawn mimics the park beyond, while a garden shed and lemon tree planters are cleverly tucked in. An internal courtyard with its own Boston ivy-covered fireplace is an additional feature to be viewed.
