2013 Garden 23 - St Heliers
This recently built house sits to the fore of a narrow site with commanding views across St Heliers Bay to Rangitoto Island. The three-level house is imposing from the street frontage with retained planting beds containing strong structural planting to match its strength and scale. Hollywood junipers and cycads give vertical thrust and lift the eye to a row of Bird of Paradise edging the terrace at the second level. Looking down from here, a small oasis of vivid green lawn catches the eye.
The private back garden gives a nod to the more traditional garden the owners enjoyed at their previous home. It contains a small sunny sitting terrace against a wall with espaliered fruit trees, a raised vegetable garden and flower borders at both ends of the lawn.
